New Member Info

You accept membership as a volunteer, however, you do who with responsibilities and obligations. To the best of your ability you should:

Attend Flotilla Meetings, preferably in uniform

Become involved in training programs

Work with your Flotilla Member Training Officer to choose the type of training and activity that best suits you

UNIFORMS

The Auxiliary uniform is very similar to the U.S. Coast Guard uniform. Our insignia are silver, rather than gold and designed to be easily distinguished from those worn by our partners in the regular Coast Guard. Each member is responsible for purchase of his or her own uniforms. The Undress Blue uniform is the wisest purchase for a new member. Uniforms may be bought locally at Coast Guard Exchanges located at near Brookley field near downtown Mobile, or the exchange adjacent to the Coast Guard Aviation Training Center on the north side of the Mobile Regional Airport. Uniform purchases are tax deductible. If you need help selecting and purchasing uniforms contact the Flotilla Commander.

Your best source for basic information is your Auxiliary Manual. You should also visit the websites listed on our links page.

From your first day as an Auxiliarist remember to carefully record the time you spend on auxiliary activities on the Member Activity Report or the Activity Mission Report.

ACRONYMS

AUOXP,DCP, AUXMIS, SCP or FSO??? What are these puzzles sprinkled throughout Auxiliary manuals? Like many organizations the Auxiliary has its own language. When they become confusing, look in Enclosure 2 in the Auxiliary Manual — or ask a fellow Auxiliarist.
